The Bio Agency has just published the results of analysis of organic agriculture in France in 2007.
The year 2007 was marked by a sharp increase in areas under vines that have reached
the 22 000 ha (20% vs. 2006), fresh vegetables (7,433 ha, 32% vs. 2006) and plants
perfumes, aromatic and medicinal.
I hope that we will have a parallel announcement of the fall in employment of pesticides in France!

The organic vineyard booming
With more than 22 000 ha in organic production, organic vineyards are in high
progression (20%), in a context of reducing the total area under vines
national (-2.3%). The number of growers involved has increased by over 16% (1907
winemakers end of 2007).
The organic vineyards are still only 2.6% of French vineyards. In 2007, the rate of conversion to organic vineyards has increased, so that over a third of wine-growing areas was certified under conversion.
The three regions which include the 2/3 surfaces with vines certified experiencing strong
progression: Languedoc -Roussillon (6140 ha, 16% from 2006), Provence -Alpes-Cote
Riviera (5294 ha, 24%) and Aquitaine (3065 ha, 9%). The growth is also very strong
in Burgundy (28%) where the vineyards certified in 2007 covered nearly 1,000 acres.
