Following objectives and principles of EC Regulation No. 889/2008, the text gives the production rules to be observed for farming .
Two general rules are announced, the first being the prohibition of use of GMOs and the second prohibiting the use of ionizing radiation.
In addition to the general rules applicable to agricultural production, the following rules apply to organic plant production:
a) organic crop production uses practices tillage and cultivation practices that maintain or increase soil organic matter, improve soil stability and biodiversity, and prevent soil compaction and soil erosion;
b) fertility and soil biological activity is maintained and increased by multiannual crop rotation, including legumes and other crops to fertilizer
green and by the spreading of manure or organic material, preferably composted, from organic production;
c) the use of biodynamic preparations is allowed;
d) In addition, the fertilizer and soil amendments can only be used if they have undergone an approval for use in organic production under
in Article 16;
e) use of fertilizer nitrogen mineral is prohibited;
f) all plant production techniques used shall prevent or minimize any contribution to contamination of the environment;
g) the prevention of damage caused by pests, diseases and weeds shall rely primarily on the protection of natural predators, the choice of species and varieties, crop rotation, cultivation techniques and thermal processes;
h) in case of an established threat to a crop, plant protection products may only be used if they have been an authorized use in organic production under Article 16;
i) for the production of products other than seeds and vegetative reproductive material, only the seeds and propagating material produced according to the
Biological are used. To this end, the mother plant, in the case of seeds and the parent plant, in the case of vegetative propagating material have been produced
accordance with the rules established in this Regulation for at least a generation or, in the case of perennial crops, two growing seasons;
j) cleaners and disinfectants used in crop production can not be used if they have been an authorized use in the production
